04.12.2006 — Kernacopia Associates Build Inter-Office Relationships Through Color Exploration
Marysville, OH--Standard team-building activities are used by companies big and small to create camaraderie among employees. As their tagline “Abundant Creative Solutions” might suggest, Kernacopia uses a different approach to any challenge, including team-building. It goes much deeper than maintaining a hand-held chain or completing a high-ropes course. As a company that centers on design, Kernacopia regularly studies color, a cornerstone to all creative concepts, this time focusing on its effects on people rather than on paper or screen.
Recently, Kernacopia took the opportunity to explore the connection between the personality profiles completed by each staff member as part of the hiring process to gauge individual effectiveness and their birthdays, specifically a new color concept intrinsically connected to each person’s date of arrival. By understanding what motivates each person, how information is processed, and what areas need improvement, the team learned how they could better collaborate on their wide variety of tasks.
Colorstrology combines astrological concepts, intuitive wisdom, and the abstract power of color. According to this ideology, each person has a unique color identified that defines them based on their birth day and month. These colors are outlined in the book Colorstrology, authored by Michele Bernhardt in collaboration with Pantone, Inc. Pantone is the world’s authority on color and has revolutionized the graphic arts industry by assigning a distinct number to thousands of colors, thus ensuring that designs all over the world can be perfectly replicated. Each birth date in the book also includes a paragraph summarizing the individual and three keywords that reflect each person’s core personality traits.
When comparing their colors to their personality profiles, the staff was curiously amazed at the striking similarities they found. While both ‘tests’ revealed comparable points, the personality profiles outlined communication methods and motivating factors, and the Colorstrology lesson gave the staff a fun gauge of their colleagues’ inherent qualities. Both personality explorations gave the staff new insights about their co-workers and all found the synopses very accurate. Though the associates are each known for their own colorful personalities, their collaborative findings provided new lessons on how to take their work over the rainbow.
